Semester 3: All about psychology

Semester 3!! Menginjak semester baru bukan berarti hanya bertemu dengan rumus-rumus baru (please -_-). Semakin hari semakin terlihat perbedaan yang nyata antara progam studi Pendidikan Matematika dan program studi Matematika. Masing-masing memiliki cakupannya sendiri.
Di semester ini banyak sekali yang aku pelajari di luar Matematika itu sendiri. Di antaranya adalah Educational Psychology, Psychology of Mathematics Learning, Sociology-Anthropology Education, dan Perspective Global. Di semester-semester sebelumnya aku juga belajar tentang Ilmu Pendidikan, Ilmu Sosial Budaya Dasar, dan Kewarganegaraan. Banyak sekali bukan? Bedanya, mulai semester ini aku berada di kelas internasional. Jadi pengantarnya memakai bahasa Inggris. Semakin memberikan warna-warni untuk Matematika (sebenarnya sih, membutuhkan sedikit usaha keras).Tapi aku senang, mendapat mata kuliah tambahan English for Special Purpose oleh Miss Miriama dari Negara Fuji. I think, she is beautiful in the way she is. Beautiful and "smart". 
Dari mata kuliah itu aku belajar banyak hal. Kita banyak mendiskusikan problematika pendidikan. Misalnya, kurikulum 2013, pendidikan di daerah terpencil, pendidikan anak luar biasa, pendidikan untuk anak jalanan, sekolah alam, homeshooling, perbedaan individu, inteligensi, quantum learning, self belief, memori manusia, dan maaasih banyak lagi. 
Di samping itu, kita juga belajar tentang Komputer dan Teknologi Informasi, Aplikasi Komputer, dan Teknik Pemrograman yang akan sangat membantu dalam media pembelajaran Matematika. Sejalan dengan globalisasi dan perkembangan teknologi yang semakin pesat.
I'm really happy to be a part of Mathematics!! (Then, learning Mathematics will be fun..)

Contextual Learning : Relation and Readiness


Mathematics is about all people and for all people. Now, we will discuss about Mathematics for very young people, student in primary school, and student in secondary school.
First, Mathematics for very young people. The mathematics learning for very young people needs the intuition. For the example, the experiment about concept of time. It is about short and long time. The purpose of this experiment is try to understand whether they can appreciate about that concept or not. To learn about it there is a battery with three modes. With a click, the battery will illuminate continuously. With double click, the battery will blinking. But if we puss for long time about two minutes, the battery will off. In this experiment, the problem is how to turn off the battery.
We found that how to learn mathematics for very young people is by doing experience and following adult activity and then copy it. Experience for child  will be very important for the next level.
Second, Mathematics in primary school or elementary school. The basic mathematics that maybe need to be learned are the concept of number, many kind of geometrical shape, very basic operation like addition and subtraction, etc. For younger students, we can learn number by make a song, illustrate on picture, and play games.
“Students have to learn from what they have already know. It is impossible if you learn something that is not have any connection to the life.

The Aspect of Mathematics


From time to time, we have many experiences about the aspects of mathematics since we were born. From the daily life to the academic life at the university, we can identify many aspects of mathematics. But sistematicaly, there are two kinds of the aspect of mathematics :

1.       The application of math
2.       The concept of math

We aren’t sure since when we are able to calculate and understand the concept of number. None of us who are remember since when we start to understand the number of zero, one, two, three, and etc. We also do not know since when we start to understand about the distance and fraction.
If we now understand and then we don’t remember  when westart to undesrtand, that we call intuition. Intuition is a natural ability. With intuition, it is possible to know something without any evidence.
Similarly, love needs intuition too.

My Efforts in Improving My English



My Efforts in Improving My English
English is important. And the importance of English for us isn’t for short time. So, Mr.Marsigit gave the first vocabulary test for us at Tuesday, February 25th, 2014.
My first vocabulary test result was very bad and far from my expectation. Now, if i remember that day, I still can not believe that was happened. But that was really happened to me. Honestly, I have a dream to study abroad. But how can i reach my dream if my English is bad?
As we know, experience is the best teacher. And that bad experience teaches me well. It makes me realize that my English is not good enough. I decide not to give up in learning English. I will try and try again to make my skill better. To make it comes true, i have to make some efforts. My efforts are:
   Reading
Reading is just a simple thing to do, but it is very important. We can read from many resources like magazines, newspapers, books, novels, and internet. If we find difficult words, we should collect them.

English for Mathematics Education
The students of Mathematics Education 2013 at Yogyakarta State University have English lesson in the second semester. The lecturer of this English lesson is Prof. Dr. Marsigit, M.A.
            The firs meeting of English class took place on Tuesday, February 11th, 2014. Mr. Marsigit was substituted by Mr. Ilham. He introduced about English lesson and explained about the highlight in following English lesson in the second semester. The first meeting with Mr. Marsigit took place on Tuesday, February 18th, 2014. The activities on that day were introduction of each other and about the English lesson.
            There are an strategy on how to be able or to learn English, especially English for mathematics education. Before the strategy, there is an approach. Before the approach, there is a belief. But the belief will related with an understanding or an information. Information from the lecturer’s experience is important, include the educational background.Mr. Marsigit’s educational background is mathematics education and phylosophy. He got the title of Master of Art as philosophy, but concentrate on philosophy of mathematics. Mr. Ilham got the title of Master of Science in concentrated on mathematics education.
Assumptions à Understanding à Belief à Approach à Strategy
            In following English lesson in this semester, we have some assumptions. The first assumption is "I believe that you are also have your experience in daily language".
