My Efforts in Improving My English

English is important. And the importance of English for us isn’t for short time. So, Mr.Marsigit gave the first vocabulary test for us at Tuesday, February 25^th, 2014.

My first vocabulary test result was very bad and far from my expectation. Now, if i remember that day, I still can not believe that was happened. But that was really happened to me. Honestly, I have a dream to study abroad. But how can i reach my dream if my English is bad?

As we know, experience is the best teacher. And that bad experience teaches me well. It makes me realize that my English is not good enough. I decide not to give up in learning English. I will try and try again to make my skill better. To make it comes true, i have to make some efforts. My efforts are:

1     Reading

Reading is just a simple thing to do, but it is very important. We can read from many resources like magazines, newspapers, books, novels, and internet. If we find difficult words, we should collect them.
And then, try to know the meaning of the words from the content of the text. If we still can’t find the meaning, then open the dictionary as the last step.

2      Practice to talk

We can read something loudly or we can find a partner in practicing of talking English. We should feel confident in speaking English because self confident is the basic thing.

3     Writing

Writing is important skill in learning English beside reading and speaking. We can do a handwriting to express our idea and practice our skill too. If we can’t, write a text in Indonesian language and then try to translate it in English.

4     Various Methods

Learning English in various methods will makes an optimal result. Because we can learn in many ways. Various methods consist of :

a.       Various Time and Places

We should not learning English just at lecture time. We can learn English anytime and anywhere.

b.      Various Resources

Resources for learning English can be coming from internet, radio, newspaper, magazine, television, or talking directly with native speaker. It will support the other efforts.From the internet, we can read many articles in English, read about world news, open an online vocabulary test, etc. If we want to talk directly with native speaker, we can do online chatting or meet the native speaker directly. We can meet the native speaker in tourism area. Maybe i can do that in Borobudur Temple because it is near to my house. There are many tourists in Borobudur Temple.

5      System Establishment of Learning

My system is studying and then integrating with my life. According to Mr. Marsigit, English is life. From that characteristic, i want to integrate English to my life. And i can start to integrate it with my daily life.

6      Fun Learning

Fun Learning is my favorite thing. I like it because it is helpful and also enjoyful. Fun learning can be coming from :

a.       Movies

I like movie from Europe. Movie is an audio-vision thing. We can hear the voice, we can hear how the actor and the actress talk. Usually, i use English subtitle in watching movie because it can enrich my vocabulary. Beside that, we will know about the tradition and the lifestyle.

b.      Songs

I think almost people in the world like music. We can sing the English song and then try to understand about the lyrics.

c.       Poems

Poems have beautiful words and it is very interesting. It can enrich the vocabulary when we want to know about the meaning of that poem.

7      Continuous Learning

There are many kinds of effort in learning English. But it will not affect enough if we do the efforts in just a short time. We will remember in just a short time too. So, continuous learning is important to completes the other efforts.

If you’re doing your best, you won’t have anytime to worry about failure.
